Space City Ski and Adventure Club

THANK YOU FOR VISITING OUR NEW WEBSITE
MEMBERS, REMEMBER TO LOGIN !!!

We are a non-profit, member run, Sports and Adventure Club operating in Houston, Texas for 50+ years.  We offer 8 - 12 winter and summer trips per year, all over the world.

Our social, sports, cultural, and charitable events fill the calendar year-round. From September to May we have fun monthly general meetings normally held the 2nd Monday of the month.  Happy Hours are the 4th Thursday of each month, year-round.

Popular local Houston Area activities this year were monthly dance lessons, monthly dinner gatherings, theater outings, and winery/brewery tours.  Activities are run by volunteers, if there is something you are interested in doing, make a suggestion and we will consider offering it.

Initial trip sales generally start in August and sell briskly, so act quickly to avoid landing on a wait-list.  Trip participation requires membership but it is only $40 for an Individual for an entire season.  Have a look around and we hope you decide to Join Us.  If you need some more time to decide, Click "Add Me to your Mailing List" (Top Left Corner)

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT BEVERLY ROBERTS

Hello Friends

According to the calendar, summer is winding down, but someone forgot to tell the thermometer.  Surviving the Houston heat and mosquitos requires turbo AC, ice cold beverages and jungle strength bug spray!  But there is one unmistakable indication that we’re moving towards fall – trip signup for 2022 travel is underway!  I was thinking about cool weather and cool trips as I completed my ski trip registrations on August 9.  Same for many of you - response was tremendous.  And don’t forget the adventure trips!  Check Marsha’s trip info below for details.

Mark your calendars for September 13 at 6:30pm for the first general meeting after the summer hiatus.  We will be going back to Warehouse 72, with its great food, room accommodations and easy parking.  Come talk to the trip TCs, hear about the plans for fall activities, and catch up with your friends after the long hot summer.

See you soon!  Stay cool!

Marianne Pearce – In Memoriam

Marianne Pearce passed away Saturday, September 11, about noon at Memorial Herman Hospital.   She lost her battle with COVID after fighting it since August 1st. She is loved by many and missed by all.  Marianne was a long-time member of Space City Ski & Adventure Club.  She has travelled world-wide with the club on trips, attended Happy Hours and activities over decades with the club.  She lived her life to the fullest, loved to stay busy, and never met a stranger.  We will miss Marianne’s presence.

Service - Saturday, September 25th at 2pm - Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home - 12800 Westheimer Rd, Houston.

Marianne Pearce Obituary - Houston, TX (dignitymemorial.com)

Alison Whittington, Marianne’s daughter, posted in Facebook Aug. 30:

“Thank you everyone for your loving and caring thoughts, words, prayers and comments.  As most of you know, my mother, Marianne Pearce, has been fighting Covid and has been in the hospital (IMU) since 8/14. She certainly has good and bad days, but for the most part remains unchanged. I have been in contact with the doctors and nurses and they are doing their best. She has been on 15 liters of oxygen the entire time and is receiving various medications. And new treatments are discussed as they become available. The "COVID pneumonia" in her lungs is the issue. Physical and Pulmonary therapy teams are involved as well. This is going to be a long battle for her.

As you might imagine she is miserable being confined and very uncomfortable with vulnerability of her situation. It is a scary situation to be in. She remains exhausted most of the time. So while she is not improving as we would hope, she is no worse either. For now we hang onto that.

I know she has been reading everyone's comments, texts and messages and that it gives her much joy to know you all are thinking of her. She tries to respond but often is just too tired. Please know that she is reading them.”

Her family is planning a celebration of life for Marianne.  As soon as we get details, we will publish them on the website.
