Why Choose This Trip

A trip to the Galapagos Islands is the quintessential bucket list adventure trip.  On this 10-day Ultimate Galapagos Islands Adventure you will have the opportunity to hike, cycle, snorkel, scuba and kayak the most incredible locations you can imagine.  You will be awed and amazed as you explore pristine beaches, active volcanos and the endemic species of flightless birds, giant tortoises, curious sea lions and colonies of marine and land iguanas.

Each day on this land-based tour, you'll take a comfortable chartered boat to visit a multitude of stunning islands.  On the boat ride, you’ll enjoy the views and some unscheduled snorkeling stops, making the most of what’s out and about that day!  Each night, you’ll return to your hotel, where you can spend your free time absorbing the local culture, enjoying the local cuisine, walking on a pristine beach, or exploring the local plant and wildlife.

Highlights of this incredible trip include snorkeling with turtles, rays and tame reef sharks at Kicker Rock (optional Scuba at extra cost), sea kayaking in the beautifully calm Isabela Bay and hiking up Sierra Negra volcano to witness one of the largest active calderas in the world.   You'll get up close to some of the most intriguing and docile wildlife on the planet – tortoises in their breeding grounds, colonies of iguanas, and beaches full of curious sea lions.  And speaking of beaches – the Galapagos Islands are among the most protected places on earth, and its beaches are secluded, with white sand and turquoise water.

TRIP AGENDA

July 21:
Arrive in Quito.   In the evening meet your Active Adventures trip leader for a full briefing and an introductory dinner

July 22:  Take a short flight to San Cristobal, the first island we visit in the Galapagos.  After lunch, bike down through the lush highland cloud forest.  The ride terminates in La Loberia, a beach that is home to a large sea lion colony and nursery.

July 23:  Snorkel (or optional Scuba) with sea lions, turtles, and sharks at Kicker Rock.  Later, join an optional hike to see the local frigate birds.

July 24:  Transfer by boat to Floreana Island, where you can snorkel and hike.  Visit the pirate caves and the area where the first inhabitants lived.

July 25:  Head to Isabela Island.  You can kayak through Isabela Bay and see amazing wildlife up close, such as marine iguanas, blue footed boobies, and crabs.  After lunch, join a short walk to Shark Alley, followed by snorkeling.

July 30:  Depart for home.

Items to Note
This is a land-only trip.  You are responsible for arranging your own transportation to/from Quito.  The TC will make recommendations on flights.
Important:  I highly recommend arriving a day before the trip begins.  This will allow you to recover from flight delays or cancellations.  It will also give you some time to recover lost luggage.  (I speak from experience!).  If you are delayed and cannot join the group at the given departure time, or if you don’t have your luggage, it will be very difficult to arrange transfers to the Islands.  Flights are limited, and purchasing replacement items on the island will be very expensive.
**This extra night in Quito is not included in the trip cost.

• Trip insurance is required.  Minimum coverage is medical, evacuation and repatriation, and the policy numbers must be submitted to the tour operator for confirmation.  You may use any policy provider you prefer – the club can suggest resources if you wish.   Cost of trip insurance is not included in the trip cost.

• Participation in the daily activities is optional (except when transferring from one location to the next).

It’s been 12 years since Space City offered this trip.  Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience one of the most unusual places on earth, where the unique plant and animal species inspired Charles Darwin’s groundbreaking evolution theories.  And don’t delay your sign-up – it’s very unlikely that the trip can be expanded, as tourist numbers are strictly regulated to minimize the impact on the fragile ecosystem.
